Goddes of Earth - Zemina 🌿

This short article will tell you about the porcelain doll Žemyna, whom you've most likely seen in person at the exhibition!

She is made of English Parian porcelain and assembled on springs. She stands 28 cm tall, and her body features 27 articulated joints. The body is hand-painted with overglaze paints in the style of Balto-Slavic motifs. The Earth Goddess is dressed in a traditional Lithuanian costume. Her shirt, skirt, and vest were sewn by the wonderful seamstress Alla Samerkhanova (https://vk.com/stylebarbie). The embroidery and other accessories were handmade by me.

She was created in 2026 at the end of winter, and on April 18th she was exhibited at the 21st Creative Doll Exhibition in Japan (Fukushima Prefecture), organized by the renowned doll artist Ms. Otake Kyo. ✨ Žemyna brought me two prestigious Japanese awards and an unforgettable time spent in my beloved Japan. 🌟

Why is she named Žemyna? Žemyna translates from Lithuanian as "Earth." In Lithuania and several Baltic countries, an Indo-European heritage still lives on — one that has also been preserved in our country, though not as well. I chose this striking image to emphasize folk unity and to awaken in people a love for folk art and their own history. I could have chosen the image of the goddess Mokosh, but unfortunately, her image is considered lost, and the existence of this goddess in the Slavic pantheon in the form currently known is questionable. I decided to draw specifically on the Balto-Slavic heritage and create something unique and intricate.

At the moment, the doll is not for sale. Stay tuned for updates on my social media! As soon as the opportunity to purchase arises, a notification will be posted. 💗

Work in progress ❤️

In the process of creating Zhemina, I focused on painting the body with motifs from Balto-Slavic paintings. While creating Zhemina, I focused on painting her body with motifs from Balto-Slavic art. I took her image from Lithuanian mythology, but I believe it's relatable to every European nation. After all, everyone has always revered the Great Mother.
