Chinese books project 🧧
artbook-encyclopedia
Chinese mythology was a serious challenge for me, as I specialize more in the Indo-European heritage of Europe and Russia, and I'm not very familiar with the East. But under the guidance of the wonderful сandidate of Historical Sciences, Research Fellow in Oriental Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences "Center for the Study of Contemporary China" Yulia Gracheva, we were able to create two wonderful books! Yulia wrote the texts and character descriptions. I assisted with the texts on the gods, acting as a co-author as a writer, and also supervised the entire work and oversaw the process. Our book was successfully published on time, in the winter of 2024.

Chinese mythology

The artbook features 75 illustrations and articles about the most interesting and unusual creatures of ancient Chinese mythology, including descriptions of their habitats, classifications, weaknesses, and attributes. The illustrators collaboration with me and Yulia in Chinese mythology has enabled the preservation of the canonical descriptions and images of mythical creatures.

For the first time in Russia, many characters that have come down to us only in chinese legends have received artistic expression and creative embodiment.

We did a lot of work with materials from a certain period and contacted library collections to ensure that our book was as canonical as possible.

Chinese gods book

A special edition album from the ARTMIF: World Bestiary" series dedicated to the Gods of Ancient China. The album includes a unique catalog of 25 deities with scholarly encyclopedic descriptions and unique illustrations by various artists.

Yulia provided us with comprehensive material so that my assistants and I could prepare encyclopedic texts that would reflect the beliefs of the Chinese people.
